Travel by Airplane

Ithaca and Cornell University are served by the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport. The university campus is about a ten-minute drive from the airport.

US Airways services Ithaca from Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and New York City-LaGuardia. Northwest Airlines has daily service from Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport to their international and domestic hub in Detroit. The service connects Ithaca air travelers to major domestic markets such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, and Seattle with a single connection at the Northwest dedicated terminal in Detroit. Northwest Airlines also offers one-stop service from Ithaca to Tokyo, Amsterdam and other international destinations around the world. This westbound service complements existing eastbound connections from Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport on US Airways to Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and New York City.
If you cannot arrange a direct flight to Ithaca, you will find that the Hancock International Airport in Syracuse, New York, accommodates a greater number of airlines. Ithaca is about a 90-minute drive from Syracuse. Ground transportation is available there, where you may rent a car or catch a shuttle bus. Ithaca Airline Limousine Service provides shuttle service several times each day. You should contact them directly for reservations at 1-800-273-9197 or 1-607-273-3030. For those arriving in New York City please note that a bus from New York City takes about six hours. There is no passenger train service to the Ithaca area.

Visa Information

International students admitted to the program on the Ithaca campus are required to complete a Financial Responsibility Form (FRF) that certifies they have funding for the full year of the program. Submission of this form is required before an I-20 form to obtain a visa to study in the United States can be released. For additional information about immigration requirements, please contact Cornell's International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO). That office can help with a variety of issues, from travel information to immigration status to campus orientation, and more.
