Master of Management in HospitalityWelcome to the hub of a worldwide hospitality network like no other. As a graduate student, you're a member the day you arrive. It starts with classmates, advisers, and faculty members, includes industry executives who visit the school regularly, and extends from there to nearly
eleven thousand Cornell Hotel School alumni who manage restaurants and hotels, electronic hospitality intermediaries, theme parks and ballparks, casinos and cruise lines, real estate evaluation firms, and holding companies and consulting firms. This network comprises people in every facet of the industry—who, on any given day, put together deals, arrange financing, monitor accounting practices, conceive branding campaigns, manage human resources, plan strategies, and research the industry. MMH students who matriculate each year benefit from this web of knowledge, and within a few years are positioned to extend support to members of succeeding classes.

Only the Committed Need ApplyThe Master of Management in Hospitality offered by Cornell University and Nanyang Technological University is an intensive professional degree program. As an incoming student, you'll need to demonstrate proficiency in finance, financial accounting, and statistics. Once admitted, you'll select one of several career tracks, including real estate, revenue management, operations management, marketing and
human resource management. What follows is a year of serious work: ten core courses and at least
five electives, leadership development, master classes, career track
advisory board meetings and industry roundtables—spread over three semesters. One of your courses is a real-world development project, another is a weekly lecture/discussion with senior hospitality executives. All of your courses are specific to the industry. You will commence your program at
Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. After one half semester, you will go to
Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, for the next one and a half semesters. Your final semester will be back in Singapore. |
One Man's DreamThe Cornell's School of Hotel Administration program started in 1922. Ellsworth Statler's words—"Life is service. The one who progresses is the one who gives his fellow men a little more, a little better, service"—are carved in a stone in the entranceway and represent the vision of the school.
Business Leaders of tomorrowThe Nanyang Business School, one of Asia's premiere business schools and highly regarded in the
area of business management, offers introductions to individuals who
serve as key business leaders in Asia. The business school is ranked
top in Singapore, 3rd in Asia and 77th in the world by the Economist
Intelligence Unit 2006 ranking of Top 100 MBA Programs in the world. |
Appeal of the Twelve-Month Master'sIn its early years, the Hotel School offered only a bachelor of science degree. But, in response to the industry's growth and sophistication and the need for research to support business decisions, a variety of graduate degree programs were created and offered, including the MMH. The MMH, like
a MBA, is a professional degree designed to advance a career. The Hotel School also recognized the importance of a broader reach to address the globalization of world industry. The result: The MMH offered by Cornell-Nanyang Institute of Hospitality Management. With the strength of the world's leading hotel school and the
one of the leading Asia business school, it focuses on the Asian hospitality sector.Originally a two-year program, the MMH is now an intensive, three-semester,
one-year program (May through June) with career-track electives and an optional post-program internship. This intensive schedule appeals especially to individuals who leave the workplace to pursue an advanced degree, undergraduates who can start their careers with a master's degree just one year after attaining a bachelor's degree, and companies willing to sponsor promising employees during a minimal service break. |
The Job MarketHistorically, starting salaries in hospitality management have been less than in some other sectors—in part because positions in hospitality come with so many intangible benefits. But that compensation gap is diminishing and the most important measure of your success—as well as the impact of your
MMH degree—will be what you earn three, five, and seven years out of school. One indication of how much weight the MMH degree carries is that, on average over the past five years, graduates return to positions paying more than 40 percent above what they earned prior to enrolling. Additional placement information is provided by the Hotel School's
Career Services Office or by NTU's CareerMall@NTU.
