| May O. Lwin is one of the leading authorities on
Marketing Communications in Asia. She is an Associate Professor and
Heads the Division of Public and Promotional Communication, School
of Communication and Information in Nanyang Technological
University. She lectures in advertising management, integrated
marketing communications and other promotional management courses at
both undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as for executive
development programs. Prior to joining the School of Communication
and Information, she was with the NUS Business School where she was
consecutively nominated for the Best Educator Award in 2002 and
2003, and received the department Outstanding Educator Award in
2004. She was also a visiting staff at the University of New South
Wales and Australian National University in 2001.
May O. Lwin’s research interests are mainly in the areas of
consumer advertising with emphasis on international marketing
aspects, and social and health communication topics. She has
published or has forthcoming papers in many leading international
journals such as the Journal of Retailing, Journal of Public Policy
& Marketing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of
Business Law, Marketing Letters, Journal of Health Communications
and Journal of Consumer Affairs and has published over 40 conference
papers. She has also conducted research on marketing communications
regulation issues on the internet and various marketing
communications topics. She has also authored a number of marketing
books, including the best-selling Clueless Series (includes titles
like Clueless in Advertising and Clueless in Marketing
Communications), contributed to major marketing texts (e.g. Retail
Management, Services Marketing in Asia) and written a large
inventory of cases which are used widely in various universities in
Asia/Australia. Her textbook on advertising in Asia Pacific
(Advertising Principles and Practice: An Asian IMC Perspective by
Pearson Prentice Hall.
Prior to joining academia, May O. Lwin had an extensive industry
background. She worked with Ogilvy & Mather Advertising where she
planned for accounts such as Nestle, American Express, BMW, Philips
and subsequently for the marketing department at Citibank N.A. She
has consulted for major corporations in the pharmaceuticals, air
travel, hospitality, and publication industries. May O. Lwin
received her Ph.D. from the National University of Singapore in
Business Administration/Marketing, in 1997. She also has an M.B.A
(1989) and a B.A. (honors) from Bryn Mawr College (1986).
